Illawarra Junior Masters

Eleven of our juniors made the trip south to the Illawarra Junior Masters on Thursday the 8th and Friday the 9th of April. This event is a Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation, 36 – hole event held at Links Shell Cove and Kiama golf clubs.

In the Boy’s Championship 145 competitors took to the course. Kade Webber was our best performer, finishing at +8 in a tie for 30th, whilst Ryan Cadle was 3 shots further back at +11 in a tie for 42nd. Kade finished tied for 16th in the 16+ age group.

Cooper Ison, Jackson Northey and Zayne Meinke competed in the 14/15 years division with Cooper a strong performer finishing 1 under in the nett and in a tie for 3rd. Jackson Northey was 2 shots back in the nett at +1 and in a tie for 8th. Zayne Meinke got off to a hot start and was placed 2nd after a nett 63 in round 1, but it would be fair to say the golf course won on day 2. Chin up Zayne!

Darcy Mackay and Aayush Verma took to the course in the 12 / 13 years division with Darcy finishing a creditable 14th in the scratch, whilst Aayush finished in a tie for 9th at +1 in the nett.

In the Girl’s Championship, 42 players teed it up. Joanna Lee was our highest finisher at tied 33rd. Joanna finished tied 9th in the nett at +9 in the 14/15 years division.

Annoushka Maikap and Marie – Clair Domingo battled it out in the 12/13 years division, with Annoushka finishing in a tie for 8th, at +13 in the nett. Marie – Clair has no doubt seen better days on the course but a big improvement on day 2 saw her move up the leader board considerably.

Savannah Webb competed in the U11 division and finished in 8th position on +12 in the nett.

Well done to all our representatives. Remember, golf isn’t a test where you pass or fail, it’s an opportunity, strive to enjoy it every round and learn from every experience.
