A Letter To Members From The CEO

Posted on: 25 November

Dear Members,

Now that we are returning to some sort of normality and all vaccinated members are again enjoying our golf and clubhouse facilities, I would like to take this opportunity to update you on what has been happening at the club and what you can expect to see in the near future.

Winter grass eradication- You will have noticed small bare patches on the back nine greens. No this is not any sort of disease, in fact our greens are now healthy enough for us to continue with our winter grass eradication program. This process started back in July and involves 5 chemical applications applied three weeks apart, the bare patches that we can now see is where the winter grass has died which is the exact intended result. With regular top dressing these bare patches will be covered over by the bent grass as the greens should be. Our goal is to have our pure bent grass greens however our particular type of bent grass is very sensitive to the chemicals used to treat winter grass meaning that we need to be careful with our approach. We understand that for the short term these greens don’t look or play their best but unfortunately this eradication is necessary to prevent the winter grass from completely taking over. The front nine green will be treated next year.

11th hole bunkers- In recent weeks we have experienced several major storm events which has been a real test for the redeveloped bunkers on the 11th hole, I’m pleased to say that the results have been outstanding. These bunkers have remained free of water and playable when all other bunkers on the course had to be taken out of play. In early 2022 bunker work will commence on the 8th hole followed by a roll out of the front nine.

Cart paths- Our cart path program continues to be implemented, the new path from the 1st tee and on approach to the 7th green will be completed in the coming weeks. We encourage all members to use cart paths whenever possible, the more traffic that we can get on these paths the better the playing surfaces will be.

New ladies 18th tee- The tee is now in play for the ladies and we have received lots of positive feedback. The elevation and angle of the new tee completely changes the perspective of the hole. The look of the new tee approach and surrounds will continue to improve as the growing season goes on.

New golf carts- In December we will take delivery of 12 new silver golf carts to replace the 12 black carts which have reached the end of their warranty period, this will return us to 72 matching top of the range carts.

Positions vacant- You may have seen that we are advertising for two apprentice greenkeepers and a gardener/groundsman to help get in front of the upcoming growing season. We are committed to providing as much help as possible to the course staff during this time. Hopefully you will see some new faces on the course soon, please make them welcome.

Clubhouse update- During the closure period, we took the opportunity to give the clubhouse a freshen up with new outdoor furniture, lighting, cleaning, painting and decorating. We will soon be installing a fence at the bottom of the outdoor bistro grass area to help keeps kids away from the golf course. Most of our favorite weekly promotions and events have now returned and its great to see so many members back enjoying the clubhouse facilities.

Club Presentation Night and AGM- with capacity restrictions still in place we have decided to postpone both of these events until early 2022.

Good luck to everyone competing in both the men’s and ladies the Club Championships, its great to see some of our younger members performing so well.

Finally as we approach the end of 2021 and look forward to a better 2022, I would like to wish you and your families and safe and happy Christmas.

Regards,

Craig Scott | CEO
