ABOUT US

A PROUD HISTORY. A NEW CHAPTER.

Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club is more than a championship golf course — it is the continuation of a proud golfing tradition that has been part of Western Sydney for almost a century.

OUR HISTORY

The club’s history can be traced back to 1927, when Parramatta Golf Club closed and two new courses were established — St Andrews at Blacktown and Ryde-Parramatta at Ermington.

Work on the St Andrews course commenced in 1927 under the supervision of owner Mr R. Park, with the course officially opening in March 1929. It later became the headquarters of the Parramatta Golf Club. The club’s first professional was Bill Bolger, who went on to win almost every professional title available during his career.

In 1930, the club transferred to Ermington, becoming the Ryde-Parramatta Club, while St Andrews returned to operation as a public course. During World War II, the course was taken over by the RAAF.

In 1947, the course was purchased by a group of Freemasons for approximately $22,000, and Ashlar Golf Club Limited was established. Golf resumed on nine restored holes following the Air Force occupation, with work continuing until the official opening of the full 18-hole course on 14 June 1948.

The original clubhouse was located on Richmond Road, Blacktown, before a new clubhouse was constructed near the Richmond railway line in 1958. Over the years, a proud succession of professionals served the club, including Bill Bolger, Alex Mercer, Bill Kaye Smith, Bill SeeHoe, Les O’Keefe, Allan Fletcher and Colin Bishop.

A NEW CHAPTER

In August 2012, Ashlar Golf Club closed and relocated further along Richmond Road to Colebee, becoming Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club and moving into a new era on a Greg Norman-designed championship course.

Since opening, Stonecutters Ridge has quickly established itself as one of Sydney’s leading golf destinations. The course was named among the Top 100 Golf Courses in Australia and proudly hosted the prestigious PGA NSW Open in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Today, Stonecutters Ridge combines this rich history with modern golfing, dining, events and hospitality facilities, welcoming members, guests, golfers, families and the wider community.

STONECUTTERS RIDGE

The name Stonecutters Ridge pays tribute to the area’s Aboriginal heritage and its archaeological history. The development was named after the Aboriginal manufacture of stone tools, with silcrete deposits found throughout the area.

Previously known as Plumpton Ridge and Iron Bark Ridge, the area was once characterised by Ironbark Forest. Archaeological evidence indicates that Stonecutters Ridge was also used as a campsite dating back hundreds of years.

The name honours the traditional Aboriginal connection to the area and reflects the rich heritage of the land on which Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club now stands.
