Pace of Play

Update

We would like to thank all members for their cooperation with the implementation of the clock at the first tee to ensure correct tee off time and their attention to the pace of play. The recent survey indicated that the majority of respondents believe the ideal round time is between 4 and 4.5 hours.

It has been apparent over the first 2 weeks of the use of a clock on the first tee that this has provided a better round flow with generally less waiting over the whole round. There have been some instances of back-ups on course, most notably on the 6th tee, which we will continue to monitor. In relation to pace of play we have also seen significant improvements across the field.

Partly due to reduced congestion as groups hit off at their allocated time and not before, but also due to members improving their general pace of play. The table below provides round time comparisons for our 2 most recent Stableford and Medal events (pre clock and post clock). Round times are shown for the first group and then for the group at hourly intervals from first hit off.

You can see from the interval times that there were round time improvements of between 7 and 25 minutes throughout the field when the Medal of 1/7 is compared with the medal of 5/8. There were no rounds over 5 hours for the August Medal. Similarly, there were significant improvements from the Stableford of 29/7 to the Stableford of 12/8. Interval times show round time improvements of between 10 and 27 minutes throughout the field.

We don’t presume to have resolved the issue of pace of play in 2 weeks, however initial signs are encouraging, and we will continue to monitor and provide further updates.

Once again, thank you all for your cooperation.
