SRGC Juniors News

Posted on: 15 January

Our Juniors don’t go on normal school holidays……instead they play golf, practicing every day and entering into as many competitions as possible.

These last 2 weeks have been the Harvey Norman Events…..first week of January in Canberra the second week different clubs around Sydney.

Darcy Mackay, Andrew Kneeves and Annoushka Maikap all played in Canberra. This is always a tough 4 days as it’s for the lower handicap players.

Andrew started great having a -3 on the first day but could not maintain finishing +5 overall and in 14th place in the Boys Event.

Darcy overall had a better event but with a +4 on the 3rd day which set him back he finally finished T7th place.

Annoushka had a strong first 2 rounds with a +3 each day but a +12 on the third day knocked her back and she finished T13th overall in the girls event.

The following week took us to Cabramatta, Liverpool, Lakeside Camden, Strathfield and Muirfield.

Here we had Annoushka, Darcy, Jack Gillet and Savannah Webb playing.

Both Darcy and Annoushka started strong with a -1 and -2 consecutively.

Unfortunately Annoushka could not maintain for the next 4 rounds but still had a strong finish taking a great 2nd place in the 14-15 girls event.

Darcy dropped slightly with a +4 on the 2nd round but with a fantastic -5 at Lakeside Camden and further rounds of Even and -1 he gained a strong 2nd place overall for the Boys Event.

Savannah had a solid +5 for her first round but even though she couldn’t maintain the flow she still fought hard all the way and played some really great golf. I know she will come out fighting hard for the next competition.

This was Jack’s first Harvey Norman competition which is definitely an eye opener for all our new Juniors. Five consecutive days play is hard enough but to play at a different course each day is just mind blowing!! I know he was disappointed with 3 of his rounds but he played amazing for the other 2 with a -4 nett and even nett which is definitely something to celebrate.

Well done to all our Juniors players and good luck to our Junior Pennants Team who play in the NSW State Finals at Newcastle Golf Club on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th January. The first matchplay game is against Dubbo GC. A write up will be posted next week.
