Club Matchplay Championships Update

The Matchplay Championships have reached the semi final stage which will be played this Saturday 20 May.

In A Grade, number 1 seed, and Master Pennant representative, Todd Ostler has progressed with comprehensive 7/6 wins over Jackson Northey and Matt Smith in the top half of the draw. Todd will face Daniel Beattie, a member of the 2023 Major Pennant team who defeated Ryan Suckling 5/4, then Brent Young 2 up. In the bottom half, Kade Webber, a member of our 2023 Major Pennant team is the highest seed left after comfortable wins over Paul McGuffie 4/3 and Harrison Wilde 7/6. Kade meets Nic Ferrer, a Master Pennant representative in another battle of the generations in the other semi-final. Nic has defeated Jacob Carpenter 1up and Craig Baird 3/2.

Greg Biggs and Matthew Coleiro will meet in the first of the B Grade semi-finals. Greg has progressed with solid wins over Darren Tait 7/5 and last Saturday knocked out the number 1 qualifier, Nic Vlismas 3/1. Matthew prevailed in a closely fought contest against Graham Blackman last week 2/1. In the bottom half of the draw Paul Banis will meet Dave Crofts. Paul, the number 2 seed has completed 2 solid 3/2 victories over Melito Villa and Robert Day respectively. Dave Crofts has progressed via wins over Kenneth Cheeseman 3/2 and Craig Dainty 4/3.

C Grade sees Gary Raab up against Roney Da Silva Barreiros in the top half of the draw. Gary has progressed by knocking out number 1 qualifier Guy Battin 2/1 and then taking out Mark Thomson 3/1 in a battle of the “Early Birds”. Roney defeated up and coming junior, Jack Gillett 5/4 in round 1 and followed up with a strong 7/6 win over Bruce Goddard to book his semi-final spot. The other semi will be contested by Glenn Tahimic and Greg Spears. Glenn, the number 2 qualifier, won a closely fought match against Kevin Hinkley 1 up before knocking out Bill Duncan 7/6. Greg has completed wins over Ashton Brown 2/1 and Stephen Towell 4/2.
